Home prices in Broward up 2 percent

Housing isn’t as hot as it was last year, but the October figures show the market is still vibrant.

The median price for existing single-family homes in both Broward and Palm Beach counties was $275,000, 2 percent higher than a year ago, local Realtor boards said Thursday.

In Broward, 1,393 homes traded hands, up 15 percent from October 2013, according to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Realtors.

Walk with a purpose: Help combat autism

Alison Craigie walked with her 17-year-old son Sam Gelfand, who has autism, to bring hope to other families.

Craigie and her son joined more than 5,000 walkers, who raised about $200,000 during the Broward Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.

“I walk because my son is the result of what early intervention, hard work, love and patience can do,” said Craigie, who has participated in the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach walks since 2011.
